Upper Eyelid Surgery Specialist in Cape Coral
If you would like to improve the appearance of your sagging eyelids, you are in luck! Eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is designed to improve and correct sagging in the skin of the eyelids. If you are looking for an upper eyelid surgery specialist in Cape Coral, look no further than Dr. Yasaira Rodriguez.
As we age, the thin skin of the upper and lower eyelids begins to droop, sometimes so much that it begins to interfere with vision. Your face may look young and wrinkle-free, but your eyelids are making you look old and tired. Our eyes are often the first to show signs of aging. The skin in both the upper and lower eyelids is much thinner than other facial skin, so, as sagging begins, eyelids can look droopy and begin to show our age. People lose elasticity in all the skin as we age, and the thin skin around the eyelids is particularly susceptible.
The good news is that eyelid droop, whether upper or lower, can be surgically repaired. Just know that it is generally considered a cosmetic procedure, so your insurance plan will most likely not cover blepharoplasty.
How is the procedure performed? During blepharoplasty, our surgeons removing loose skin and fat that is causing the eyelids to droop, sag or bulge. This cosmetic procedure will make you look younger and give your eye area a more refreshed appearance.
If we do both the upper and lower lids, the procedure generally takes about two hours. You will go home the same day, and will need to take it easy for about a week while your eyes heal. Your upper lids will have stitches that last about five days. We will send you home with gauze, ice packs, eye drops and over-the-counter painkillers to help during your recovery.
Most patients over age 35 elect to have this procedure, and most are good candidates for blepharoplasty. We perform the procedure on both men and women. As long as your general health is good, you are likely a good candidate. Don’t worry — during your initial consultation, we will ensure that your overall health as well as your facial tissues are healthy enough for the procedure.
Patients need to have realistic expectations about what the procedure will and won’t achieve. This surgery does not correct vision, nor does it correct other wrinkles or sagging elsewhere on your face. It is a localized procedure on the eyelids only. We will talk to you at great length during the pre-surgical consultation to ensure that you have realistic expectations about blepharoplasty.
