Upper Eyelid Surgery Cape Coral
Upper eyelid surgery is a good option for both men and women in Cape Coral who have saggy and droopy skin around their eyes that affects their peripheral vision.
Elmquist Eye Group has been serving Southwest Florida for 25 years. E. Trevor Elmquist, DO, his partner, Kate Wagner, OD, his associate, Nina Burt, OD, and ophthalmologist Sarah Eccles-Brown, MD, offer wide-ranging expertise in eyelid surgery and the most up-to-date eyecare treatments.
Our patients find it comforting to have compassionate, concerned physicians who take a genuine interest in their eye health and provide valuable advice.
Eyelids and Aging
Eyes and the thin skin around them are very susceptible to the effects of aging and gravity. Each time we smile or frown, the movements create fine lines and wrinkles above and below the eyes. Under-eye bags are caused by a combination of loose skin and pockets of fat that push through the lower eye muscle, creating a pocket of fat or a “bag.” These are just a few of the things that make us look tired, sad or angry.
Benefits of Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery can help you achieve smoother, natural-looking eyelids that appear more alert, rejuvenated, and refreshed. This is accomplished by removing loose, sagging skin or fat deposits in the upper or lower eyelids.
Blepharoplasty addresses issues such as:
- Sagging upper eyelid skin
- Puffiness in the upper eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Eyelids that sag into your field of vision
- Excess eyelid fatty deposits
- Excess skin and fine lines of the lower eyelid
Depending on the extent of the surgery, blepharoplasty can open up the appearance of the eyes and make you look more awake and refreshed. It can also reduce wrinkles and creases, and can minimize the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
Some people are concerned about eyelid surgery because they do not want to deal with lingering scars. Experienced surgeons like those at Elmquist Eye Group make tiny incisions that follow the natural creases of the eyelid. As a result, scars are camouflaged, and they fade away completely over time.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort after eyelid surgery. There may be some swelling and/or bruising that lasts for 7 to 10 days. Although you can usually resume your normal routine within a few days, it is wise to avoid strenuous exercise and activities for two to three weeks.
The majority of patients who undergo blepharoplasty enjoy long-lasting results. You will notice immediate improvements after surgery, but your skin may continue to tighten for a full year after the procedure.
Unfortunately, blepharoplasty won’t stop your eyes from aging. Upper eyelid surgery often lasts a lifetime but some patients may need it repeated. Lower eyelid surgery rarely needs to be repeated.
