When Was Your Last Eye Exam?
If you don’t remember, you may be passing up your best opportunity to protect your eyesight. A thorough examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is the only way to be confident that your eyes are healthy.
Even if you think your eyes are healthy, regular eye exams are important for detecting and treating problems before they lead to vision loss, such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, adults with no symptoms or risk factors for eye disease should have annual comprehensive dilated eye exams starting at age 60. For African Americans who are at a higher risk for developing glaucoma, those exams should begin at age 40. And all people with diabetes should have a dilated eye exam at least once a year.
To schedule eye exams or check out our extensive selection of eyeglasses, call Elmquist Eye Group in Lee County at (239) 936-2020. Our skilled team of optometrists and ophthalmologists will provide you with individualized care and help prevent vision loss.
