Why Flexon?

Unlike other conventional metals, the titanium nickel alloy used in Flexon frames is lighter in weight and more durable. The best feature is that this “memory metal” will return to its original shape even after being flexed, twisted or bent.

The metal alloy was developed in 1961 by U.S. Navy scientists who were researching titanium-based alloys for use in missile heat shields. They discovered that this metal, when bent by exposure to heat, would return to its original shape. When they struck the metal with hammers and then left it in the sunlight, dents would disappear and revert to normal.

Although earlier attempts were made to use the material in eyewear, it wasn’t until 1988 that Marchon Eyewear patented the Flexon material and began making optical frames that offer advanced durability, lightweight construction, and a comfortable fit.

The current Flexon collection consists of dozens of styles in classic shapes and timeless designs for men, women and children.

Getting a Good Fit

If you wear glasses, you already know that frames are not one-size-fits-all. In addition to fitting the dimensions of your unique head, your Elmquist Eye Group optician will make sure that the nose pads and temples are comfortable.

Our opticians can be especially helpful if you wear multifocal lenses, such as bifocals, trifocals and progressive lenses, by suggesting frames that will work with your prescription and look good on your face.

A frame with a good fit will:

  • Be slightly wider than your head, with adequate space between your temple and the temple arm (the piece that goes back toward your ear).
  • Have temple arms that touch your head just in front of your ears and don’t curve until they rest on your ears. The tips should rest against your head without pressing too tightly.
  • Have a good-fitting bridge (where the frame rests on your nose). For your continued comfort, be sure the bridge is not too loose or too tight. To test it out, bend over and make sure the frames stay securely in place.

Relying on the professionals at Elmquist Eye Group to take proper measurements and help you find frames suited to your face will eliminate many of the common problems associated with ill-fitting eyewear.
